Why I built SoftwareAlmanac
There's no shortage of software in the world. The hard part isn't finding tools — it's finding the right one without wading through review sites that list everything and stand behind nothing. I started SoftwareAlmanac to be the opposite of that: a short, carefully chosen shelf of software I've actually used and genuinely believe is worth paying for.
Every page here exists to save you the hours I've already spent — signing up for trials, hitting the paywalls, reading the fine print, and working out which tool actually earns its price and which one just markets well.
Who's behind the site

I'm Cody, the founder of SoftwareAlmanac and the person behind every review on it. I'm not a faceless "editorial team" — I personally choose which tools get featured, put them through their paces where I can, dig through their pricing and terms, and write each review myself.
I built this site out of frustration with hype-driven "best software" lists that clearly hadn't touched the products they were ranking. My promise is simple: honest opinions, real trade-offs, and no recommendation I don't believe in — even when there's a commission attached.
How I review tools
Every review follows the same honest process:
- Hands-on where possible. I sign up, use the free trial or plan, and get a real feel for the product — not just its marketing page.
- Real pricing, including the catch. I dig into what you actually pay: intro versus renewal, what's locked behind higher tiers, and the fine print most reviews skip.
- Honest trade-offs. Every tool has weaknesses. I say where each one falls short and who it's not right for — not just what it does well.
- Written for a specific person. Instead of "best for everyone," each review answers a real question: is this worth it for a beginner, a small team, a solo creator?
- Kept current. Software and prices change. I revisit and update reviews rather than letting them go stale.

It costs you nothing extra, and — this part matters — it never changes which tools I feature or what I say about them. I'd rather lose a commission than recommend something I don't believe in.
